“The Queen’s Gambit” is now the Best Miniseries on Netflix
Anya Taylor-Joy starrer is now the all-time greatest miniseries on the platform. The miniseries has done everything right so far, and it has now been rewarded with a top spot in the list of most-watched limited series present on the biggest OTT platform.
You must have seen The Queen’s Gambit by now. No? Why? The miniseries offered us some great moments and, more often than not, caught us cold with its subliminal and astonishing tale of a young girl who rises through the ranks to become a chess champion. “The Queen’s Gambit” is a reason to smile in the year of colossal disappointment.
As the data suggests, several
people like me have binge-watched the entire series in one go and that too
within a week of its release. Nevertheless, a recent report has suggested that
the streaming service has released a press release which unveils the fact that
the Anya Taylor-Joy starrer has made history.
It has not been even a month
since the release of “The Queen’s Gambit, and the numbers accumulated by it are
already staggering. According to a report, almost 63 million households have
already watched the miniseries. If you have been paying attention to the Top 10
lists of Netflix, you must have noticed that the TV series has been among the
rankings since its release, and it still is in some countries. The most
fascinating aspect of its performance was that it largely remained the
most-watched content in 63 countries out of 92, where it was released.
“The Queen’s Gambit” is now a
household name and has thrown Anya Taylor Joy under the spotlight of profound
prominence. And she deserves it.
Although the creators should get
their due credit, nothing less can be said about Anya Taylor-Joy, who made the
series. She played the lead character named Beth Harmon and ably portrayed her
life struggle as she rose from being a poor drug addict to being the greatest
chess player in the world. Thomas Brodie-Sangster, renowned as the character
Jojen Reed of the hit HBO series Game of Thrones, has splendidly supported her
in the series.
Though you might have wished it,
“The Queen’s Gambit” is not a true story. The script for the miniseries was, in
fact, based on a novel of the same name, which was written by Walter Tevis. You
would be glad to know that the novel has once again attained the crowning
position in the New York lists of the bestsellers.
The miniseries has been overseen
by Scott Frank, who has already made his name with the series “Godless.” He has
transcended his virtuosity with this one.
As expected, the miniseries has
inspired a lot of people to learn more about chess as the keyword “How to Play
Chess” has reached an all-time high as far as Google trends are concerned.
